Location: Leeds Buddhist Centre
Billy Casper, after years of thinking there were two, has finally figured out that there are Three Jewels in Buddhism! This month at Metta Movies, we are watching Ken Loach’s 1969 Yorkshire classic, Kes.
The film follows Billy, a young boy growing up in a harsh mining town. Neglected at home and bullied at school, his environment is completely trapped in the Reactive Mind. But when he finds and trains a wild kestrel, Billy steps out of that unskilful cycle. He taps into the Creative Mind, showing us how a spark of spiritual awareness and focus can emerge even in the darkest conditions.
It is a beautiful, deeply moving film that serves as a raw teaching on impermanence. Come and join us to watch a British cinema classic, and stick around afterwards to discuss how we can protect our own practice when the conditions around us are unsupportive.
WHEN: Friday, 20th March. Starts 7:15 PM sharp. (Doors open from 6:30 PM
TIMINGS: The film is 1 hour 50 minutes long and will finish at approx. 9:05 PM.
We will have plenty of time afterwards for tea and a friendly discussion.
